The BESTawards is a design excellence awards program that recognizes interior design projects going beyond a pretty picture and truly encompassing Brilliantly Executed Spaces and Thinking. We recognize that successful interior design requires a collaboration between many disciplines, consultant teams, project managers, vendors, contractors, manufacturer reps, etc; therefore, the awards will acknowledge all who contribute to the project success.

Concept Statement

The Leadership Library is where foundational relationships are established. An intimate space designed for technology-free communications, the lounge utilizes soft lighting, craftsman-built millwork, fine furnishings, and a coffered ceiling to provide a relaxed space where Rallyday Partners can comfortably discuss challenges and aspirations with prospective clients.

Vision Ridge Partners LLC, Semple Brown Design

Concept Statement

This openness is echoed through an open office floor plan, adopted to. eliminate real and perceived barriers between employees and reinforce a communal dynamic. The result is a unique culmination of Vision Ridge’s commitment to sustainability, community, and place where employees and clients can experience the firm’s culture.

BEST on a Budget

GoSpotCheck Headquarters, Tryba Architects

Concept Statement

The design of GoSpotCheck’s 16,000-square-foot expansion makes the most of the building’s unique, predominantly steel and glass architecture with a contemporary industrial interior aesthetic characterized by natural light, transparency and warmth. The design team took great care to provide a cohesive physical and cultural connection between the client’s adjoining historic Rocky Mountain Seed Building office and the new modern office space. The result achieves the feel and functionality the client sought along with an enhanced connection to the surrounding public realm and the energy of the urban environment. Within the confines of the small budget,
the interior design focused on carrying through the raw, industrial character of GoSpotCheck’s culture and previous space in the Seed Building while providing a vibrant and flexible environment that would support their growth.

Kaffe Landskap, Roth Sheppard Architects, LLP

Concept Statement

‘Kaffe’ & ‘Landskap’ are Swedish words that individually translate to ‘coffee’ and ‘landscape’. When paired together, they engender the notion that this café is directly connected to the land. The feeling of being in Kaffe Landskap is an atmosphere of Fika – a Swedish cultural attitude that encourages us to take pause, enjoy, and socialize. Fika is a daily ritual of enhancing community.

The Curtis Hotel / Lobby Features, Make West

Concept Statement

The Lobby Features for The Curtis Hotel project were completed as part of a larger interior renovation of the property and collectively reflect the whimsical, engaging theme that was imagined for the space.

Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies, Design Studio Blue

Concept Statement

The Orthopedic & Spine Center of the Rockies in Loveland Colorado is a stunning state-of-the-art facility with strong Colorado roots. Design Studio Blue was able to stay true to the original brand and vision while bringing this project to life by incorporating natural color palettes such as wood tones, etched glass, and calming blue hues. In addition, they sourced authentic photography and commissioned paintings from local artists to amplify the warmth of the space.

Concept Statement

The design team took a dated, dark, and unoccupied space and helped their client understand not only how it could be opened up to provide light and views, but also be designed with character reminiscent of the historical neighborhood.

The Magnolia Hotel New Orleans provides a unique and comfortable boutique experience while embracing it’s historical structure and creative community.

Chinook Trail Middle School, RTA/MOA, a joint venture

Concept Statement

For the Chinook Trail Middle School, the Owner wanted to design a school like no other in Academy District 20, with flexibility and innovation as the primary focus areas. The design-build team also introduced the concept of the WELL Building Standard. It was embraced wholeheartedly as part of a holistic approach to improve occupant health, both physically and mentally. Although not pursuing certification, it is the first public school in Colorado designed to this innovative standard.

Concept Statement

255 St. Paul and its sister building were born from a vision to redefine luxury apartment living as expressed through intentional place-making, crafted interiors and first-class services.

Slack’s Denver office creates a comfortable and calming environment that feels like a retreat. It functions seamlessly to make the employees lives easier and enjoyable.

Miami Beach Convention Center Renovation and Expansion, Fentress Architects

Concept Statement

The redesigned Miami Beach Convention Center transformed the existing 1950s-era center into a global hub for arts, culture and technology befitting its reputation as a world-class entertainment destination the venue has become known for through annual events such as Art Basel Miami Beach. Inspired by
the city’s dynamic culture and natural environment, the center’s design
emulates elements of the nearby ocean, beach and underwater life. Through exploration of the surrounding landscape and lifestyle, the Miami Beach Convention Center has become a contextual representation of the vibrant city.

When expanding their footprint in Denver, they looked to the design team to create an inspired workplace that celebrated their culture while authentically connecting to the spirit of Colorado. The new Denver home for EF exudes the Colorado experience. It’s bright, open and grounded to the natural landscape through colors, materials and furnishings.

    It is my tribe! IIDA was the group I didn’t know existed and was so excited when I found the organization.

    What does interior design legislation mean to you?:
    Elevates our profession, creates a platform for designers to work to their fullest intent.

    What gets you the most excited about design?:
    I love that design can solve problems in ways people don’t always think about. Design unites and clarifies solutions and space.

    What project have you worked on that you are most proud of and why?:
    The Preacher’s Son restaurant in Bentonville, Arkansas. It was amazing, challenging and was nominated for a James Beard Award for design. It’s as beautiful of a space as the food is delicious!

    I enjoy the opportunity to connect with new people in the industry and find encouragement from the personal relationships I have developed.

    What does being a designer mean to your life?:
    Design is an opportunity to facilitate positive changes in the lives of people. Personal fulfillment flows from this practice of helping others to create a space from which they can flourish and find their own success and fulfillment.

    I wanted to be more connected to our industry and to feel a sense of community with others who are passionate about the built community.

    Golf Tournament if the weather is nice….Or BEST, I love seeing all of the entrants.

    On a typical Saturday where can we find you?:
    During the day, spending time with my family, enjoying all Denver has to offer. Evenings usually bring friend time exploring a new bar or restaurant.
