THINK BETTER | 9:30 – 10:30am
by Rick Mohr (Steelcase)

In workplaces throughout the world, scenarios of near-constant distraction have become the norm.  We text during conversations, email during meetings, skimp on lunch breaks to catch up on work – always trying to process faster, handle more and work harder, often without realizing just how much we’re degrading our mental capabilities in the process. Thankfully, our ability to focus is still salvageable. As a result of the vast amount of neuroscience research being done, there’s now hard evidence about what attention is, how it works, how to attain it and how to use it productively. By delving into the findings, Steelcase researchers have gained new insights into how our brains should shape thoughts, emotions and behaviors, and then applied this new science to create concepts for how thoughtfully designed workplaces can help workers better manager their attention. By leveraging the full capacity of our brains and out environments, it’s possible to think better at work.

THE JETSONS – WILL GEORGE STILL COMMUTE? | 9:30 – 10:30am
by Greg Dekker (Teknion)

In a future with technology that allows nearly everyone to work from anywhere, do you think people will still travel into offices to work?  In this highly interactive facilitated workshop, you will explore and decide for yourself why – or why not – workers will work together in physical offices.  You may be able to work anywhere, but you will need to work somewhere. Where should that somewhere be?

MATERIAL TRANSPARENCY & HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTS | 12:00 – 1:00pm
by George Bandy & Rami Vagal (Mohawk)

This CEU explains the concept of materials transparency, why it’s important and the various methods that can be used to quantify a product’s ingredients.  This CEU also discusses how various standards and organizations are including material transparency in their requirements, such as the Living Building Challenge, LEED v4, the WELL Building Standard and others.  Specific documentation about product ingredients and sourcing is also covered, i.e., The Red List, Environmental Product Declarations, Declare labels and Health Product Declarations, along with a case study that explains the documentation process for materials transparency.

DESIGNING FOR HIGH IMPACT LEARNING | 3:00 – 4:00pm
by (National)

Education is being disrupted by shifting student demographics, research focused on the science of learning, and the impact of new technologies.  Schools are looking at their roles through a new lens.  Leaders are rethinking the environments of the past, which were intended for controlling students, restricting learning to a predetermined curriculum, delivered by those in authority.  They now have a vision of education that is freeing, unfolding, and discovering who we are and our purpose as we live and work together.

New teaching approaches demand new kinds of learning spaces to prepare today’s students for the future.  As content becomes more dynamic, flexible and accessible to a large number of students, schools and universities are looking at how that content is currently delivered and what types of changes need to be made in learning spaces.

  1. Do you have any open spots for a JANUS et Cie booth?

    • Hi Amber,

Unfortunately we sold out of booths in May. This being our first year we weren’t sure what to expect but are really excited to have more booths next year for vendors that weren’t able to participate this year!
